On the 23rd of November 1970, 11 men gathered together to form Zagreb Soccer and Social Club (now known as Hurstville Zagreb FC). The idea was to bring young families from the Croatian community in and around the St. George, Inner West, Canterbury-Bankstown and Sutherland districts of Sydney together with the one passion that unites us all – Football.
Our first game was played in March 1971. Today, HZFC celebrates its 50th birthday.
2021 will see Hurstville Zagreb FC compete in our 50th season in the St. George Association and 47th consecutive season in Football NSW Competitions. The club has a proud history, producing many players who have gone on to represent Australia at the highest level (Socceroos, Olyroos, Joeys) while others have represented NSW, played and coached teams in the highest leagues in Australia (NSL, A-League) and Overseas clubs.
Our club has grown over the years and now, with more female participation than ever before and NPL Junior football teams, the club’s future is in great hands.
On behalf of the current committee, we would like to thank everyone involved in the club from its inception in 1970 – its players, parents, supporters, sponsors, volunteers and importantly, those 11 men and their families, whose children and now grandchildren are still involved with our club.
Our celebrations for our 50th Anniversary (like everything in 2020) has been postponed until next year. We look forward to celebrating this milestone next year with all of you which we promise will be an event to remember.
Sretan 50ti Rođendan Hrvatski Nogomenti Klub Zagreb Hurstville.
Happy 50th Birthday Hurstville Zagreb FC
